Are you violent or abusive? Do you have problems managing your temper? Do you frighten people you care about?
What is violence?
Any act that hurts someone else (either: physical, emotional, psychological, verbal, spiritual, sexual or financial) or forces them to do what you want. Constant verbal abuse and name calling can be felt as strongly as physical abuse.
If you have done any of these you have behaved violently or abusively.
Am I abusive / violent?
If you have to ask this question then the answer is probably yes.
Why should I stop being violent?
Though it may make you feel powerful, the consequences are that people will turn away from you, especially those closest to you.
How can I stop?
The first thing for you to realise is that you are responsible for your behaviour.
- You can choose to become non-violent, non-abusive and non-threatening.
- You can choose to change your attitudes, beliefs, behaviour and responses.
- You can choose to treat with respect you partner, children and all others.
It is in your power to make this choice a reality.
